Thanks for visiting. I’m a divorce mediator, collaborative divorce attorney Andrea Hirshman.
After graduating from law school I worked as a family lawyer in the courts and saw how the adversarial divorce process hurts families. I knew there had to be a saner approach and found two alternative divorce solutions that offer healthier options: divorce mediation and the collaborative divorce process.
Divorce is rarely easy, but rather than tearing families apart, these options support constructive dialogue that leads to the best possible divorce settlements, that are in alignment with both spouse’s values, goals and create enduring solutions that keep children’s best interests at heart.
With compassion and understanding, I help you identify what makes sense as your family transitions and into the future. I support you to clarify and articulate your needs and concerns and provide the expertise needed to go through the process of divorce and accomplish your goals – without battling in court. If you have children, I help you give them their best shot at thriving beyond the divorce, by reaching agreements that support their well-being. And, I help you to develop financial and co-parenting plans that work for everyone in the family, today and tomorrow.
Often there is a negative pattern of behavior between couples which makes it very difficult to reach mutually beneficial settlements. I help you interrupt the negative patterns so we can get to the core of what you want and create durable solutions that enable fair divorce agreements and help you avoid future conflict.
My own family endured a very difficult divorce when I was a child. One of my proudest achievements is the successful mediation of the conflict between my parents 40 years after their divorce. It’s a welcome relief to me, my siblings, and our extended family to not have to navigate hostile waters between our parents anymore.
I have two young adult sons and live in Brooklyn, NY with my husband and rescue Yorkie, Gustopher.
